How electricity units are calculated
1 electricity unit = 1 kilowatt-hour (kWh). To estimate units, multiply appliance watts by hours used and divide by 1,000. Monthly units are daily units multiplied by the number of usage days.
Example
A 1,500W AC used for 8 hours a day uses about 12 units per day. Over 30 days that is about 360 units. At ₹8 per unit, the energy-cost estimate is ₹2,880 before fixed charges, taxes or slab adjustments.
Preset wattages are examples only. For a better estimate, use the rated wattage shown on your appliance label or manual.
Electricity Calculator FAQs
What is 1 unit of electricity? One unit is 1 kWh, or 1,000 watts used for one hour.
How do I calculate monthly appliance units?Watts × hours per day × days ÷ 1,000 gives estimated monthly units.
Why can my actual bill be different?Tariff slabs, fixed charges, taxes, subsidies and changing appliance power use can affect the final bill.
Does an AC always use its rated wattage? No. Compressor cycling, temperature settings, efficiency and room conditions can change real consumption.
Can I use this for a fan, fridge or geyser?Yes. Choose a preset or enter the appliance's own wattage for a more relevant estimate.
